Cowan's Auctions Goes to Brimfield

In mid-May, I took a trip to Brimfield, Massachusetts to witness the biggest antique show in the States, mingle with our consignors, buyers and clients and see the offerings there.

Brimfield is a sight to see, and I recommend that everyone in the antique business travel there at least once.  From giant fountains to painted Charley Brown figures, from pottery to paintings, everything is there!  Just as amazing is the intensity of the dealers.  They'll do just about anything to be the first to skim the offerings, including peek in trucks on the day prior to the show's opening (see picture below).

You can find the rarest and most unusual things at Brimfield.  On the first day, I encountered a painting by Cleveland artist Rolf Stoll.  Cowan's sold a painting by Stoll, a very obscure artist, for $14,000 in our March American & European paintings sale.
